Das Werk MIKAFA - das Kürzel stand ausgeschrieben für `Mindener Karosserie und Fahrzeugbau GmbH` - war 1949 ins Leben gerufen worden und widmete sich nach dem Einstieg über einachsige Reiseanhänger ab 1951 dem Aufbau von Reisemobilen. Schon nach kurzer Zeit hatte sich das Unternehmen den Ruf eines erstklassigen Anbieters erarbeitet. Als Basis für die fahrenden Mobile griffen die Düsseldorfer von Anfang an auf die Fahrgestelle des Tempo Matador zurück. Mittels eigener Gitterrohrrahmen konnten teilweise die Campermobile sogar breiter oder länger aufgebaut werden, als der Matador serienmäßig das Werk verlassen hatte. In diese Phase fielen ab 1955 auch zwei Aufträge, bei denen Matador-Reisemobile mit einem anderen Motor ausgestattet wurden - dem Vierzylinder-Boxer eines Porsche 356. Äußerlich kam diese erstklassige Motorisierung in dem Typenzusatz `Sport` und den jeweiligen Porsche-Emblemen an der Front und am Heck zum Tragen.

Entgegen der Anordnung im sportlichen Originalfahrzeug wurde der einstmalige 356er-Antrieb, wie beim Matador üblich, vorne eingebaut - exakt bezeichnet befand er sich unter den beiden vorderen Sitzen. Die Kraft verteilte sich auch nicht auf die Hinterradachse, sondern auf die vordere. Mit dieser Motorisierung war der Matador natürlich ein wesentlich flotterer Zeitgenosse als seine Kollegen, doch der erhöhte Fahrspaß hatte damals auch einen erheblichen Nachteil - den Preis. Bis zu 40.000,- DM kostete das Porschegetriebene MIKAFA-Wohnmobil. In diesem Anschaffungspreis fand aber auch der von der Düsseldorfer Firma ausgeführte Innenausbau Berücksichtigung, der damals als sehr hochwertig galt.

The MIKAFA plant – the abbreviation stood for ‘Mindener Karosserie und Fahrzeugbau GmbH‘ – was founded in 1949 and devoted itself to the construction of motorhomes from 1951 onwards after initially producing single-axle caravans. After a short time, the company had earned a reputation as a first-class manufacturer. Right from the start, the Düsseldorf-based company used the chassis of the Tempo Matador as the basis for its mobile homes. Due to own tubular space frames, some of the camper vans could even be built wider and longer than the standard Matadors had left the factory. Form 1955 onwards, two orders were placed in which Matador motorhomes were equipped with a different engine – the 4-cylinder boxer of a Porsche 356.

Contrary to the arrangement in the sporty original vehicle, the former 356 drive, as usual with the Matador, was installed at the front under the two front seats. The power was also not distributed to the rear axle, but to the front axle. With this engine, the Matador was of course a much faster contemporary than its colleagues. But the increased driving pleasure at that time also had a considerable disadvantage – the price. The Porsche-powered MIKAFA motorhome cost up to 40,000 DM. However, this purchase price also took into account the interior fittings carried out by MIKAFA, which were considered very high-class quality at the time.

L'usine MIKAFA basée à Düsseldorf – dont l'abréviation signifie "Mindener Karosserie und Fahrzeugbau GmbH" - a été fondée en 1949 et s'est consacrée à la construction de camping-cars à partir de 1951, après avoir initialement produit des caravanes à un essieu.

En peu de temps, l'entreprise s'est forgé une réputation de fabricant de premier ordre. Dès le début, elle a utilisé le châssis du Tempo Matador comme base pour ses mobil-homes. En raison de leurs propres cadres spatiaux tubulaires, certains des camping-cars pouvaient même être construits plus larges et plus longs que les Matadors standard qui avaient quitté l'usine. À partir de 1955, deux commandes ont été passées dans lesquelles les camping-cars Matador étaient équipés d'un moteur différent :  le boxer 4 cylindres d'une Porsche 356.

Contrairement à la disposition de la Porsche 356 d'origine, et comme d'habitude avec le Matador, le moteur était installé sous les deux sièges avant. La puissance n'était pas non plus distribuée à l'essieu arrière, mais à l'essieu avant. Avec ce moteur, le Matador était évidemment beaucoup plus rapide que ses confrères. Mais ce plaisir de conduite rapide à cette époque avait aussi un inconvénient considérable : son prix ! Le camping-car MIKAFA à moteur Porsche coûtait près de 40 000 DM. Il faut dire que ce prix d'achat tenait également compte des aménagements intérieurs réalisés par MIKAFA, considérés à l'époque comme de très grande qualité.
