Als der Z4 nicht aus München kam!
Die `Československá zbrojovka Brno`, allgemein nur `Zbrojovka AG` genannt, stieg 1924 in das Autogeschäft ein und brachte 1933 den Typ Z4 heraus.
Der Wagen besaß einen wassergekühlten 2-Zylinder Reihenmotor in Zweitaktbauweise mit 905 cm³ Hubraum und 18 PS Leistung. Die Öffentlichkeit bekam das Auto erstmals bei der Prager Autoausstellung im April des Jahres 1933 zu sehen. Die meisten Besucher des Messestandes dürften in dem Wagen in erster Linie eine soliden, pragmatischen Gebrauchswagen der Mittelklasse gesehen haben, als dass sie die technischen Neuigkeiten würdigten.
Besonders hervorzuheben war dabei die Tatsache, dass der Z4 das erste tschechoslowakische Auto mit Frontantrieb war. Auch die Einzelradaufhängung mit Blattfedern und serienmäßige Hebelstoßdämpfern an den Vorderrädern war in der Branche noch keinesfalls selbstverständlich.
In verschiedenen Veränderungen wurde das Auto in insgesamt fünf Serien aufgelegt.
Bis Oktober 1936 blieb die finale Version im Sortiment und beendete schließlich nach insgesamt 2.680 gefertigten Fahrzeugen die Ära des Z4, dem zu dieser Zeit schon die beiden Nachfolgemodelle, der Z5 und Z6, zur Seite gestellt waren.
Von allem gefertigten Typen war der Z4 das wirtschaftlich erfolgreichste Modell der Zbrojovka AG.
Fraglich bleibt, ob sich BMW bei der Wahl der Typenbezeichnung ihrer Version des Z4 von 2002 an den Wagen aus dem Nachbarland erinnerte – man wird dies vermutlich verneinen dürfen.

A Z4, but not from Munich!
`Československá zbrojovka Brno`, commonly referred to as ‘Zbrojovka JSC’, entered the car business in 1924 and launched the Z4 in 1933.
The car featured a water-cooled 2-cylinder in-line engine in two-stroke design with 905cc displacement and 18 hp. The public set eyes on the car for the first time at the Prague Motor Show in April 1933. Most visitors to the booth probably saw in the car primarily a solid, pragmatic utility car of the middle class, rather than appreciating the technical innovations.
Particularly noteworthy was the fact that the Z4 was the first Czechoslovak car with front-wheel drive. Even the independent suspension with leaf springs and standard lever shock absorbers on the front wheels were by no means common in the industry back then.
With various changes and modifications, the car was launched in a total of five series. Until October 1936, the final version remained in the product range and finally ended after a total of 2,680 copies produced the era of the Z4, which at this time was already accompanied by the two successor models, the Z5 and the Z6. Of all types produced, the Z4 was the most economically successful model of Zbrojovka JSC.
It remains questionable whether BMW remembered the car from the neighboring country when choosing the type designation of its version of the Z4 from 2002 – one will probably be able to deny this.

La Z4 de Munich ? Pas du tout !
« Československá zbrojovka Brno », communément appelée « Zbrojovka JSC », est entré dans le secteur automobile en 1924 et a lancé la Z4 en 1933.
Cette voiture était équipée d'un moteur 2 cylindres en ligne refroidi par eau. Ce deux temps de 905 cm3 intégrait 18 cv. Elle a été présentée au public pour la première fois au salon de l'automobile de Prague en avril 1933. La plupart des visiteurs du stand ont probablement cru voir en elle une voiture utilitaire, solide et rationnelle, créée pour la classe moyenne, plutôt que d'apprécier ses innovations techniques.
Il convient de noter en particulier que la Z4 était la première voiture tchécoslovaque à traction avant. Il est vrai que sa suspension indépendante avec ressorts à lames et amortisseurs à levier standard sur les roues avant n'était en aucun cas courante dans l'industrie de l'époque.
Après diverses modifications, la voiture est produite en cinq séries. La dernière version resta dans la gamme de produits jusqu'en octobre 1936, et s'arrêta finalement après un total de 2 680 exemplaires produits. A l’époque ses deux successeurs, la Z5 et la Z6 étaient déjà sorties. De tous les types produits, le Z4 est resté le modèle le plus économiquement réussi de Zbrojovka JSC.
On peut se demander si BMW s'est souvenu de la voiture du pays voisin quand la version du Z4 de 2002 fut créée – on imagine bien que certains diront le contraire !

Československá zbrojovka Brno, comunemente indicata come ‘Zbrojovka JSC’, entrò nel settore automobilistico nel 1924 e lanciò la Z4 nel 1933.
La vettura presentava un motore in linea raffreddato ad acqua a due cilindri e a due tempi, con una cilindrata di 905cc e 18 CV. Il pubblico vide la vettura per la prima volta al Salone dell'Automobile di Praga nell'aprile del 1933. La maggior parte dei visitatori allo stand probabilmente considerava la vettura principalmente come una solida e pragmatica auto utilitaria per la classe media, senza apprezzarne le innovazioni tecniche.
Particolarmente degno di nota era il fatto che la Z4 fosse la prima auto cecoslovacca a trazione anteriore. Anche le sospensioni indipendenti con molle a balestra e gli ammortizzatori a leva standard sulle ruote anteriori non erano affatto comuni nel settore dell'epoca.
Con varie modifiche e adattamenti, la vettura venne lanciata in un totale di cinque serie. Fino all’ ottobre 1936, l'ultima versione rimase in produzione e, dopo un totale di 2.680 esemplari prodotti, terminò l'era della Z4, che a quel tempo era già accompagnata dai due modelli successivi, la Z5 e la Z6. Di tutti i modelli prodotti, la Z4 fu il modello di maggior successo economico della Zbrojovka JSC.
Rimane dubbio se la BMW abbia ricordato la vettura del paese confinante quando ha scelto la denominazione del suo modello Z4 del 2002, ma si tratta sicuramente di una coincidenza!
